Mercantile Bank PLC has recently been awarded a certificate by Bangladesh Bank for its significant contribution to inclusive finance and enterprise development. This recognition was presented under the "Supporting Post-COVID-19 Small-Scale Employment Creation Project (SPSSECP)" implemented by Bangladesh Bank with funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Under this project, Mercantile Bank has successfully generated a notable number of new employment opportunities.
At the certificate awarding ceremony, Shamim Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director & CAMLCO of Mercantile Bank, received the certificate from Nurun Nahar, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Manoj Kumar Howlader, Executive Director & Project Director; Kazi Tamanna Hoque, Director; and Ali Sabed, Team Leader. Other senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank, and Mercantile Bank were also present at the event.
Mercantile Bank Training Institute (MBTI) recently organized a Virtual Training program on “Understanding Bangla QR: A Step towards Cashless Bangladesh” to enhance participants’ understanding of Bangla QR and its role in promoting a secure, convenient, and cashless digital payment ecosystem in Bangladesh. The program was inaugurated by Mati Ul Hasan, Managing Director of the bank, while Muhammad Mahmud Hasan, EVP & CTO, attended as the special guest.

Mercantile Bank PLC has officially inaugurated and launched their new Trade Finance Analytics (TFA) software, a robust foreign trade-based reporting and monitoring solution. The launching ceremony took place at the bank's Head Office in Dhaka recently. The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Mati Ul Hasan, Managing Director of the Bank.
The event was held via a hybrid platform, allowing for both physical and virtual attendance. Participants included members of the bank's Senior Management Team, the TFA Software Steering Committee, and the Project Team. Officials from the bank's International Division, Authorized Dealer (AD) Branches and Central Trade Processing Centre (CTPC) units also attended the session.
The newly deployed TFA software provides Mercantile Bank PLC with an advanced, automated framework to streamline its foreign trade reporting and enhance monitoring capabilities across its network.
Mercantile Bank PLC inaugurated four new sub-branches today (Thursday, June 4, 2026) with the aim of providing modern and convenient banking services to customers. The new sub-branches are Miarhat Sub-Branch in Swarupkathi, Pirojpur, Shibchar Sub-Branch in Madaripur, Merajnagar Sub-Branch in Kadamtali, Dhaka and Bhola Banglabazar Sub-Branch in Bhola. Mercantile Bank Training Institute (MBTI) organized a comprehensive training program on "Prevention of Money Laundering & Combating Financing of Terrorism" in Rajshahi to strengthen awareness and capacity among its officials. The Chief Guest of the program was Md. Amzad Hossain Khan, Executive Director (Grade-1), Bangladesh Bank, Rajshahi, while the Guest of Honor was Mati Ul Hasan, Managing Director, MBPLC.
Nazim Uddin, Director, Bangladesh Bank, Rajshahi, and Shamim Ahmed, DMD & CAMLCO, MBPLC, were also present as special guests. The program was chaired by Abu Yusuf Md. Abdullah Haroon, EVP & DCAMLCO of the bank. Muhammad Miaraz Hossen Gazi, AVP & Faculty, MBTI, was present as a speaker, among others. The speakers emphasized the importance of continuous training in preventing financial crimes and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The training session aimed to enhance knowledge, practical skills, and regulatory understanding to combat money laundering and terrorist financing effectively. A total of 192 participants from different branches across the North Bengal Region attended the training program.
Mercantile Bank Training Institute recently organized a comprehensive workshop on “Awareness and Capacity Building for RBS (Risk-Based Supervision) Implementation” with the aim of strengthening participants’ understanding of effective risk management and supervisory practices in the banking sector.
The program was graced by Zakir Hossain, Deputy Managing Director & CRO of Mercantile Bank PLC, as the Special Guest. DMDs Ashim Kumar Saha, Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain, Shah Md. Sohel Khurshid and Tapash Chandra Paul, PhD delivered speech in the inaugural session. In special guest’s remarks, DMD Zakir Hossain emphasized that fostering a data-driven culture in banking is essential for the successful implementation of Risk-Based Supervision (RBS). He noted that such a culture enables banks to more effectively identify, assess, and manage risks, thereby strengthening governance, enhancing regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainable banking operations.
A total of 55 participants attended the workshop, gaining practical knowledge and valuable insights into RBS implementation, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance. Along with the senior officials of the bank, Shamim Ahmed, EVP & Deputy CRO and S.M. Salim Uddin, Head of Training were also present at the program.
Mercantile Bank PLC has funded an agricultural research project at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) titled “Development of a Hybrid Dryer System to Reduce Crop and Fish Post-Harvest Losses,” which concluded today with a formal workshop. The project was made possible through a donation of Tk. 1.60 crore from the bank’s special Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, enabling the university to develop and deploy innovative technology to support the nation’s farmers and fishers.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mojid of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, with Professor Dr. A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Vice-Chancellor of BAU, serving as the chief patron. Md. Zakir Hossain, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Risk Officer, Dr. Tapas Chandra Paul, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer of Mercantile Bank and Professor Dr. Md. Monjurul Alam, Technical Specialist of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Bangladesh were present as Special Guests.
The session included agricultural entrepreneurs, beneficiaries, scientists, and students. Through this CSR donation, Mercantile Bank PLC has bridged the gap between academic innovation and field application, minimizing post-harvest losses to strengthen national food security
The closing ceremony was held to present the research findings and demonstrate the effectiveness of the 19 hybrid dryers developed through this initiative. As part of the bank's commitment to social impact, 10 of these dryers have already been distributed free of cost to users in Cox’s Bazar, Patuakhali, Satkhira, Tangail, Khagrachari, and Rangamati. An additional six dryers are currently in the process of being distributed, while three units are being utilized by the university for further research.
